Summary, etc. | Before the 2011 Arab revolts, Turkey was emerging as an ambitious regional power, with a series of diplomatic feats. Destabilization of the Middle East has stalled the trend. Ankara’s position with regard to the Syrian crisis is ambiguous and its ambivalence surrounding the jihadist movement has incited tension and distrust. While there is a nascent movement towards rapprochement with Riyad, relations between Ankara and Moscow as between Tehran and Cairo are highly strained. |
