Summary, etc. | Utopias have accompanied modernity. But they have been greatly compromised by the experience of totalitariansm and assimilated to potentially terrorist and extremist discourse. And yet there have been different types of utopias: some claimed to reach totality and inspired totalitarian practices, while others protected the principle of incompletion and clearly stayed away from power. We shall examine what utopia has brought to a policy of freedom and more particularly what role democracy may and must give to utopia for it not to be drawn away from its founding principles. |
