The paper seeks to identify and highlight the heterogeneity of individual and collective Chinese mobilities. In order to do so, it considers these mobilities within the broader historical, social, political, and economic contexts from which they stem. Particular attention is paid to ways in which local social dynamics intersect with settlement strategies, activities, and identity constructions deployed by individual migrants. |
