Summary, etc. | An economy of violence was built in the commune of Abobo in Côte d’Ivoire on the fertile ground of a social ghetto, and was reinforced by the paroxysmal effect of the war. Smokehouses as part of the social world of drugs have over time become social institutions. The relations of interdependence built around them constitute configurations bringing together a diversity of actors, shaping the social order. The legitimacy of smokehouses is thus negotiated through practices that are both coercive and moral. These entail power relations, but also the production of meaning via magico-religious relationships. |
