Summary, etc. | The aim of this study is to identify the links between parental attachment styles (n=110) of children with an attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADHD) as well as the educational techniques associated with specific dimensions of ADHD (inattention and hyperactivity). The parents of children suffering from ADHD frequently seem to be insecure and highly preoccupied. Insecure parents in general, and those who are preoccupied in particular, report using significantly less positive verbal discipline, fewer congratulations and awards, less well-adapted supervision and more severe, inconsistent discipline than those parents who are not insecure. Moreover, the less supervision the parents use, the more their children present hyperactive behaviors. In short, this study underlines the relative importance of parental attachment style and the educational techniques as risk factors toward the development or the exacerbation of ADHD-like symptoms. |
