520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. At the end of 2017, at a Geneva nursing home where most of the residents are senior citizens with severe cognitive disorders, a pilot study was initiated where twelve residents were prescribed medical cannabis. Beyond the clinical effects of the pilot study, the sociological component of the study presented herein aims to understand how family carers perceive this new treatment. Families, who face suffering associated with companionship of the patients, are supportive of the treatment in the hope that it will improve the patients’ well-being. The positive expectations of therapeutic cannabis treatment are based on the families’ familiarity with the product, the fact that it offers a natural alternative to synthetic drugs, as well as the medical supervision of the treatment and the families trust in the institution where it is administered.
