Summary, etc. Postpartum depression (PPD) is a frequently observed phenomenon that impairs parental capacities and therefore affects the child. For a long time, it has been considered a uniquely maternal disorder, affecting only the mother–child dyad, consequently excluding fathers and the family context in which a dyad develops from the understanding of the disorder. We present arguments in favor of a family approach to PPD, such as the fact that it affects fathers too, or that its impacts on the child are closely linked to the quality of conjugal and coparental relations. The clinical implications of adopting a family approach to PPD are also discussed.
