Summary, etc. Systematics is a very old discipline and it has undergone a profound renovation and found some public recognition over the last thirty years. However, few scientists identify themselves as “systematicians”. How can we analyze the definition of disciplinary boundaries? This article focuses on the mobilization of the scientists seeking to make this discipline exist, as an identity and as an organizational principle for scientific work. The first part retraces the historical trajectory of this community and the creation of an epistemic community in the international context of the last decade’s mobilization for biodiversity. The second one focuses on the mobilization work carried out by the “Société Française de Systématique” since 1984, which literally gave existence to the discipline in France. The third one presents a mixed record of this mobilization and highlights the existence of a cycle of mobilization in which international arenas have now taken the lead.
