520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | A shared and contrasted reading of Theodor Adorno and Lewis Mumford’s thought reveals a joint association that might at first seem surprising. Indeed, their theories marry the prospect of emancipation with a theoretical pessimism. Far from hindering their respective critical thrust, this association between pessimism and emancipation, on the contrary, gives new impetus to their ideas. Through the exploration of Adornian and Mumfordian thought, this article aims to express this reformulation and to demonstrate its relevance for (re)examining the notion of emancipation. In doing so, this article also intends to highlight the existence of a little-known philosophical constellation, which our two protagonists belong to, that of the “watchmen of modernity.” |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
