Summary, etc. In economics, exploring the future mobilises two main approaches: forecasting and prospective research. In this joint interview with Nadia Maïzi, specialist of prospective studies and professor in applied mathematics at MINES Paris-PSL, and Jean-François Ouvrard, forecaster and head of the forecasting department at Banque de France, we delve into these two disciplines. By examining the specific characteristics and differences of these approaches, this discussion demonstrates how they imply two complementary relationships to the future, play out at distinct steps of decision processes and intervene in their own way in the public debate.
