| Summary, etc. | This article pleads for an archeology of Mauss’s works on religion aside Hubert and Durkheim in the first quarter of the XXth Century which impulsed a decisive turn on the study of religion. Returning to a fine analysis of Mauss’s discoveries in his three areas of study, namely symbolism, sacrifice and gift, amounts to more than simply paying justice to a distinguished scholar. While Mauss is renowned today still for his contributions to sociology and ethnology, the influence of structuralism as well as the fragmented and unfinished nature of his work have occulted the exceptional interest of his ‘religiology.’ Moreover, his works on religion enable us to rethink the relations between religion, politics and economics in modern societies in the context of the mutations brought forth by globalization. |
