Summary, etc. 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Using a dynamic microsimulation model, we analyze public investment in higher education from a fiscal fairness perspective. Our results show a sharp difference between the tax contribution of individuals with academic degrees and the amount of public subsidies used to finance their higher education. We consider that a large majority of the taxes paid by graduates serve to cover the cost of their higher education. Therefore, we estimate that the median of the implicit subsidy corresponds to 18% of the fiscal lifespan of a taxpaying graduate. However, this median is significantly heterogeneous depending on the type of academic degree earned. |
