520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In this paper, we will construct a model of unilateral divorce by combining exclusive rights on marriage dissolution and various compensation rules which favor the parent who has custody of the children. We will examine the effects of these in the short term (frequency and efficiency of divorce) as well as the long term (marriage selection). A fall in the cost of divorce proceedings has non-negligible effects on the formation of marriages. In particular, when the altruism of parents and child support is considered, it appears to be the case that more marriages occur when the cost of divorce decreases.
