Summary, etc. | The economic recovery from the crisis in the euro zone is giving rise to a risk of complacency about the zone’s long-term survival. Despite the recovery, the question of the euro’s future remains on the agenda. How can we make sure that the euro zone will survive? This is the question we address here. In order to answer this question, it is important to start from the design failures that have been identified by economists (for a survey of the different views of economists, see in particular Baldwin and Giavazzi, 2015). We stress three of these failures here and then discuss possible solutions to these design failures so as to shed some light on the euro’s future. JEL Codes: F32, F33, F45 |
