| Summary, etc. | To proclaim the Gospel is to become involved in the struggle to free the poor. This is a requisite of the prophetic definition of diaconal action. That action has a political dimension (see the Conference of German Bishops, 1999). It plays the role of defence council for its cause and must participate in increasing awareness of consciences and opinions. It works in this way within and without the institution. Subsidiarity is another of its key characteristics. It demands a multiplicity of players, even assuming a frankly dissenting role should this be required. Naturally, these players come from all the Christian confessions; liturgy itself plays a role. |
