520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Human dignity is clearly connected to the idea of the person. The contemporary philosopher Robert Spaemann sheds light on this connection. For him, the human person is in summary a concrete, natural, analogical, self-transcending individual. These definitional notes highlight the unconditional dignity of the human person. This overview allows us to identify the characteristics of human dignity in the thought of Spaemann and to confront his vision with different trends in contemporary ethics. Spaemannian thought is strengthened by this confrontation, while also encountering an opposition that, on the basis of empirical data, refuses to distinguish between human beings and nonhuman beings, including animals, to establish the criteria of dignity.
