Summary, etc. Based on the example of bike courier jobs and recent evolutions in the profession with the appearance of delivery platforms, this article analyses what it is that is changing these new organisations of work with regard to gender. Far from confirming the hopes placed on digital technologies with regard to their abilities to surpass the social relationships of oppression, the continuation of male predominance in an “uberised” industry raises new questions on the evolution of forms of masculinity, echoing studies on gender-based divisions within industries. The article shows that platform-based organisation of work strengthens gender divisions while also worsening inequalities. On the one hand, this is because it exploits these inequalities to attract its workforce and to keep its rates low. On the other hand, this is because it makes it far more difficult to express political opinions by making “everyone for themselves” a competitive key idea.
