| Summary, etc. | A mayor has to know how to select his/her deputies to be involved in the local government. This article examines the qualities taken into consideration during the selection of deputy mayors in urban municipalities. It first lays out the main sociographical characteristics of this personnel insisting on the increasing selectivity of the profiles according to the municipal hierarchy and to the number of inhabitants. The article then addresses expectations and political calculus which determine the cooptation of deputy mayors. Finally the composition of this personnel obeys to a diversity of logics which reflect the complexity of its missions. |
