Summary, etc. | This article draws a link between two texts, “The Capacity to Say No and Psychosomatic Illnesses in Childhood” by Gérard Szwec and “Non, deux fois non” by Jean-Bertrand Pontalis. The two authors, while starting from divergent theoretical perspectives, examine the same phenomenon: the failure of negation in the Freudian sense. The first focuses his interest on the somatizations that can result from this failure, the second on the “negative therapeutic reaction,” which he sees as a way of saying “no” to analysis through an act. A clinical case illustrates how analytic work can contribute to the construction of negation and, at the same time, to the process of subjectivation. |
