520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. "Many stories and legends, everywhere and throughout the ages, contain a certain number of typical oedipal mythemes and are interpreted by the psychoanalyst as oedipal narratives; this interpretation often encounters opposition from the "specialist" in the matter. The article briefly relates four medieval legends (St. Gregory, Judas Iscariot, St. Andrew of Crete and St. Alban) and the sacrifice of Abraham, and argues that far from being contradictory, the psychoanalyst's and the "specialist's" interpretations exist on two different levels and complement each other; the psychoanalyst perceives the raw drive level while the "specialist" perceives the work of sublimation."
