Summary, etc. This interview took place in October 2022 after the EPF Congress in Vienna. While it seems that the Viennese societies are not yet working in depth on the years of Nazism, in Germany real work has been done, particularly at the DPV. What still differentiates the DPG from the DPV today? The DPG, which saw itself as the heir to the old German psychoanalytical society, undoubtedly still has great difficulty in disentangling itself from the period of Nazism and its integration into the Göring Institute, where psychoanalysis was no longer practised (officially) and was replaced by German psychodynamic psychotherapy. This form of psychotherapy is still practised today, favoured by the fact that it is reimbursed by medical insurance companies –a kind of “psychotherapy without Freud”. Today, the aim is to return to the practice of free association, which was completely abolished during the period of the Göring Institute. The relationship between psychoanalytic societies and the state is also discussed. It should be noted that the “Caruso” affair concerns Austrian psychoanalysis and could be dealt with separately.
