Summary, etc. Fulfilling the duties of a parent becomes far more challenging in the context of a migrant family. The young people in such families, meanwhile, carry the burden of repairing a fracture that runs right through their very identity. How do younger generations approach this challenge? What forms does the parent-child relationship take? What perception do children born ‘here’ to migrant parents have of themselves? Seeking to understand the experiences of young ‘second-generation’ migrants and their families in the Italian context, we carried out semi-structured interviews with young people who were born in Italy to parents from other countries. This article discusses data from 47 interviews that were carried out with young people of various nationalities and aged between 18 and 30. The analysis of the data was rooted in a phenomenological approach, with an open coding technique guided by the principle of faithfulness to the phenomenon.
