Summary, etc. | Regarding parental neglect, the insufficiency and saturation of family support services have become a political concern. As a result, it is essential to reactivate families’ own resources. The purpose of this study is to highlight the role that aunts and uncles may take with the different members of the family system who have experienced episodes of neglect. This research presents the experience of two families, using case studies and a variety of clinical tools (genogram and FAST). The analysis showed that uncles and/or aunts who maintain a warm relationship with the parents can be a source of support for both parents and their children and can act as “resilience mentors”. However, the study also reveals that participants are ambivalent about their perceived support. Different hypotheses have been discussed. This research contributes to a better understanding of aunts and uncles' support and gives an opportunity to discuss the clinical utility of working with this family subsystem. |
