520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Based on statistical surveys in France, a review of the international literature and ethnographic fieldwork in Brazil, this article will analyze the help given by young people to a member of their family. Young caregivers are children or adolescents who provide help, assistance or support to an ill, disabled, elderly or dying loved one. This population remains relatively unknown in scientific research on informal assistance, as well as in French household surveys. Several factors explain the invisibility of this group of caregivers that the association Jeunes aidants ensemble (JADE) and the survey “Who are young caregivers today in France ?” (Novartis-Ipsos, 2017) estimate that there will be 500.000 in metropolitan France in 2019. Among the reasons for this invisibility, we will mainly mention the family and social non-recognition of the help provided by these young people. This article proposes two axes of data analysis: the assistance provided by children and adolescents within their families (Marote et al., 2012; Leu et al., 2018) and the impact of this assistance on their life in general and their health in particular (Becker, 2007).
