| Summary, etc. | As part of its strategy of conquering the new German L?nder that emerged from the former GDR, the DVU distinguishes itself from other far-right parties through its success in the Saxony-Anhalt elections of 1998, during which it competed bitterly with neo-socialists in the SPD, especially over the divisive issue of the defense of social justice, which was especially dear to Eastern Germans. Widespread, extreme right-wing views in the new L?nder could challenge the SPD?s role of blocking the right-wing extremist vote. Classic issues in political sociology, including legitimacy, representation, and domination are also analyzed in this paper. |
