Summary, etc. The cathedral chapter of Limoges left behind a significant obituary, albeit one that has not been entirely preserved in its original form. We have made it our mission to explore the situation of the xiiith century through this obituary (3G 11), which includes 370 entries, 84 of which are extras. Of these entries, 145 concern canons, but not all are anniversary donations, since these latter entries came hand in hand with the raising of offices to the double rite, as well as with multiple donations. In total, 107 canons from Limoges feature in the obituary. We thus have the complete list of deans from 1218 to 1308. The records are fairly detailed, outlining—for the most part—the basis of the donation, the debtors, and the « part de l’Œuvre » (overseen by the bailiff of anniversaries) so as to ensure a proper distribution. Yet it was never a question of carrying out a process of absolution over the sepulchers of canons, nor of making comments on the liturgy to follow (only with regard to the lighting and the ringing of the bells). The raising of offices to the double rite meant that the favorite saints of the canons became known, among whom were to be found many local saints.
