520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The fifteenth and sixteenth centuries witnessed the spread of the macabre genre in the plastic arts, in scenic texts, and in choreography. In this article we analyze the examples that appeared in Catalan culture, from a Triumph of Death that formed part of parades in Barcelona for the royal accession of Ferdinand I (1412), a spectacle that was reused in 1414 to celebrate his coronation in Zaragoza, to the Representació de la Mort, a Majorcan dramatic text from the sixteenth century, and the monumental frescoes painted in the Franciscan convent of Morella depicting the performance of a circular dance with text and music noted below the image. We also review the various forms the macabre dances took in these Catalan examples: a processional line dance that evolved into a closed circular one and finally into a carole. We also examine traditional dances such as the contrapás and the cruciform Procession of Verges dance.
