Summary, etc. Speed of action and executive functions are frequently impaired in cases of cerebrovascular disease and constitute the core deficit of cognitive functions in stroke survivors. In this article, we have adopted a broad definition of executive functions, including a number of cognitive processes from different theoretical domains (working memory, attention, etc.), as well as behavioral and socio-emotional aspects. This review supports the high frequency of post-stroke executive impairment with a dissociation between cognitive and behavioral components, indicating that both should be evaluated. Studying the profile of these impairments leads us to propose a short battery for the evaluation of these disorders, based on the French-language harmonization battery (GRECogVASC). This battery provides good sensitivity for the two most common stroke subtypes (infarction and cerebral hemorrhage), whereas a large battery like that of the Grefex remains necessary in cases with cerebral venous thrombosis and aneurysmal rupture or in patients with an unexplained loss of autonomy. This review also shows the presence of socio-emotional disorders. A standardized evaluation battery assessing post-stroke socio-emotional disorders, Grefex 2, has been implemented within the framework of the GRECO and SNLF, and its ongoing standardization is expected to improve routine assessment of these disorders, as well as the relationship between socio-emotional disorders and behavioral-dysexecutive disorders.
