520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This contribution aims at examining how the love of money impacts moral character and social relations. It starts with the depiction of the oligarchic man in Republic book VIII and then turns to the four forms of meanness in Theophrastus’ Characters, a work in which money and market exchanges are a recurrent and structuring topic. Going back to how Plato points out the psychological sources of the love of wealth, I will then elaborate on its moral consequences, and with an emphasis on Theophrastus more specifically, on its impact on social interactions.
