Summary, etc. This article explores the influence of rural areas on young working-class women’s relationship to time. It is based on an ethnographic study conducted from 2017 to 2019 with 54 women aged 18 to 28. This study first reveals the permanent availability that is required of women in the professional, family and nonprofit spheres. They experience reconciliation tensions very early on, due to features specific to rural areas: a limited supply of services, a labour market unfavourable to women, high transportation costs and times, and strong inter-knowledge. The study goes on to disclose the consequences of this injunction to be available. Lacking control over their own time, these young women are less visible on the local public scene.
