| Summary, etc. | Since the basis of our pension system is the number of years of contributions, the individual account on the prevention of hazardous and arduous working conditions needs to take the reality of hazardous and arduous work into account by adjusting the number of years. The account has been introduced as part of the pension reform with two objectives: to reduce the arduousness of working conditions and the length of exposures and to take periods of hazardous or arduous work into account in the determination of pension rights. But alongside this compensation aspect, which has monopolised the attention, the new mechanism also comprises a prevention aspect, which was initially intended to support the compensation aspect. However, the prevention policy is rather lightweight compared with the complexity of the mechanism on entitlement to compensation, which suggests that, in France once again, reparation has buried prevention. |
