| Summary, etc. | The theological research of Claude Geffré, presented by this article, was carried on for more than forty years. It developed diverse aspects of dialogue, such as the dialogue between faith and human experience and that between Christianity and other religions. The article explores the roots of this theology, in particular its connection to the school of the Saulchoir and then with Marie-Dominique Chenu and his theology of “signs of the times.” C. Geffré, who began his instruction as a “reader” of St. Thomas’ works, distanced himself from a tradition marked by metaphysics to develop a hermeneutic approach. His hermeneutic theology endeavors to bring to life the dialogue between faith and modern reason, paying particularly close attention to the political dimension of the faith. In the new context of religious pluralism, C. Geffré dedicated numerous works to inter-religious dialogue, where he sees the most serious challenge to face Christian theology in the future. His project is to arrive at a form of “inter-religious theology” and to find, by way of the dialogue of religions, the means of overcoming the separation between mysticism and theology’s political dimension. His research, in any case, develops within the horizon of a spirituality of “the authentic human.” |
