Summary, etc. Hyperbole is discovered in the philosophy of Levinas as a test of subjectivity, in its relation to meaning and as a phenomenological method. The hyperbolic negation of everything as well as the hyperbole of ego ethics, emphatically open to others, discloses a complex individual subject. Intimately weaving Descartes’ metaphysical doubt with Plato’s good beyond essence, Lévinas’ hyperbole impels rational thought to resist contenting itself with its concepts.
