Summary, etc. After having undergone significant development, microfinance is now beingquestioned in so much as the current practices in the sector have failedto meet all the financial service needs of populations who are excludedfrom the traditional banking system. In this context, some countrieshave tried to limit these shortcomings by introducing a different type ofintervention in which the state’s role has been rethought. Through theBeninese context, this article aims at identifying the benefits and thedrawbacks of the state’s return as a direct actor in microfinance.
