520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Questioning the theoretical and applied definitions of ecology, in particular that of the “human ecology” of the pioneering sociologists of the Chicago school, this article examines the dynamics at work in Brussels’ Northern Quarter. More specifically, this article centers around the story of transformation of Maximilian Park, a park that has been dedicated to welcoming migrants and homeless people since 2015, and is set to be transformed into an urban farm. By analyzing this narrative, which reflects the intentions of the different actors involved in urban production, as well as the fate and problems of the inhabiting and occupying populations, this article highlights the exclusion to which these populations are subjected through current discourse, planning, and investigation. While this ethnography reveals the shortcomings of the instrumentalization of the ecological, participatory, and consensual discourse underlying contemporary urban planning, it also paves the way for another outlook on ecology: one that is urban, plural, and which holds promise for a hospitable conception of the city.
