| Summary, etc. | The purpose of this article is to define and analyse the main characteristics of the North American public health training and research system in order to benefit from their experience and create the École des hautes études en santé publique (University for Higher Studies in Public Health) founded in France in 2007. The following aspects are therefore studied: the notion of school accreditation, the advantages of interdisciplinary centres, the recruitment methods and the teachers-cum-researchers’ status, teaching organisation, research organisation, school financing, particularly public-private partnerships. |
