Summary, etc. The first medical agreement was signed in 1971 by the French health insurance system and the Confédération des syndicats médicaux français (CSMF) (Confederation of French Medical Unions). The original contract was simple. In exchange for regulated and reimbursed fees, private practice doctors obtained the partial coverage of their health insurance and old age pension contributions (ASV), and, later on, partial coverage of their family allowances. The following agreements—we are now on the ninth—would become progressively more complex. This article traces the evolution of these agreement negotiations and the sometimes absurd climate in which they have taken place.
