| Summary, etc. | Zinédine Zidane is one of the most well-known and popular sportsmen among adolescents. This article, using the philosophical research framework shaped by Gaston Bachelard, analyzes some of the values associated by spectators with the leader of the French national soccer team. The essence of the champion’s image was elicited by questioning 878 adolescents in the region of Provence (France) about the archetypes and symbols which appear in their imagination. Results show that Zinedine Zidane is associated with the archetypal images of earth and fire. Such association is due to:his social and cultural roots;his practice of soccer;his personality in the stadium and outside. |
