Summary, etc. | Within a cultural history of art in the 18th century, this article proposes a sort of colour chart of the allegories that illustrate certain royal orders commissioned to promote Louis XV’s portrait in the public space. In the wake of a glory shared by the prince and the nation, a few private works presented the court with the political orientations of the king’s actions influenced by the “Lights”. Invested with the individual virtues of father of the People, guided by Temperance during his military exploits, Louis XV, driven by humanitarian feelings, encouraged the extreme variety of the expressions of his iconic image: The Chivalrous Glory, ancestral and dynastic, The Virtues of shared Glory and The Glory of Love are analysed here. |
