Summary, etc. | How is the Gulag represented in USSR and Russia these days? Focused on the first Soviet film “SLON” (1927) staging the Gulag, this article reexamine different paradoxes about the social imaginary of the Labor Camps in Russia today. This study is based on a research conducted in the Solovkis Islands, which prefigured in 1923 the entire Soviet prison camp system, where the film was shot in 1927, describing the daily life in the camp as a valuable document to present a new form of visual totalitarianism. |
