Summary, etc. At the beginning of the 20th century, accompanying visitors in musems is thought of as a female profession from the start by male curators eager to keep the first graduates in art history away from scientific positions. This female intellectual profession evolves throughout the century by adapting to demand through short-term jobs with changing levels of activity. One century later, the characteristics of the profession have remained unchanged, but it now attracts certain men, mostly artists who make-do with these flexible working conditions because they give them time for their artistic creation. Besides, the accompanyers, whatever their gender, tend to "naturalize" the competencies at work in their profession and live matrimonial situations "typically" female: the partner is the one to secure the financial security of the couple.
