| Summary, etc. | Writing about oneself must be analyzed in terms both of the mental functions it fulfills, and the mental processes that go with it or that it brings about. Writing is both the mark and the unifying thread of that which circulates between the social sphere and the intimate sphere of the human subject. Writing about self puts the feeling that one exists on stage, making manifest that one is alive through the perception of others. The author confirms this through the writing of Imre Kertész, who won the Nobel Prize winner for literature in 2002, and was deported as a child to Auschwitz and Buchenwald. When writing succeeds in putting such an extreme traumatic experience into words, the text that results from it can expose both the threat of being annihilated and the resistance to this threat. This shows clearly that what is at stake in writing is finding within oneself the strength to exist. |
