Summary, etc. This article discusses the role of two public policies for reducing social inequalities. In the current context, exclusion, social mixing, and social inclusion approaches are combined. This raises a social question, one which opens up a new horizon. The author describes two parallel developments: that of a social policy for disabled people, and that of a republican public school system which plays a large role in producing national cohesion. The author shows how these two fields of public intervention have interacted through successive legislative changes.
