| Summary, etc. | Alors que l’intérêt pour Jacques Ellul est croissant chez les militants et intellectuels écologistes, le caractère théologique d’un pan important de son œuvre interroge. Le sociologue critique de la technique était en effet aussi théologien protestant. Que faire de cette théologie d’Ellul ? Certains pensent qu’elle ne concerne que les lecteurs chrétiens ; d’autres qu’elle condamne toute son œuvre à être rangée du côté d’un conservatisme réactionnaire. Nous voudrions, quant à nous, développer l’idée qu’elle est porteuse d’une signification et d’une puissance ayant une valeur indépendamment de tout acte de foi, notamment en ce que la temporalité eschatologique qu’il y construit peut être une réponse politique pertinente à la menace contemporaine d’un effondrement. |

| Summary, etc. | While the interest in Jacques Ellul is growing among environmental activists and intellectuals, the theological aspect of a great part of his work is being questioned. The sociologist, critical of technology, was in fact also a protestant theologian. What should we do with the theology of Ellul? Some think that it only concerns Christian readers; others think that it condemns all his work to be placed on the side of a reactionary conservatism. As for us, we would like to develop the idea that it is the bearer of a meaning and a power having a value independently of any act of faith, in particular in that the eschatological temporality that he constructs in it can be a relevant political response to the contemporary threat of a collapse. |
