| Summary, etc. | Cet article s’intéresse à l’effet de la productivité agricole sur l’environnement, à travers l’exemple de la déforestation. L’auteur examine cette relation à partir d’un échantillon comprenant neuf pays du bassin du Congo pour la période allant de 1990 à 2010. Les résultats économétriques montrent que l’augmentation de la productivité agricole réduit le taux de déforestation pour les pays considérés. L’augmentation de la productivité agricole peut donc être un moyen pour résoudre à la fois le problème de la production d’une plus grande quantité de nourriture et celui de la préservation des forêts dans le bassin du Congo. |

| Summary, etc. | Agricultural productivity and deforestation in the Congo BasinThis article is concerned with the effects of agricultural productivity on the environment using the example of deforestation. We examine this relationship with the help of a sample of nine countries in the Congo Basin for the period from 1990 to 2010. Our economic results show that an increase in agricultural productivity reduces the rate of deforestation of the countries considered. An increase in agricultural productivity can therefore be a means of solving the problem of producing a greater quantity of food and the preservation of the forests of the Congo Basin. |
