| Summary, etc. | L’objectif de cet article est d’évaluer empiriquement l’influence du niveau de démocratie des pays d’Afrique centrale sur leur commerce international. Nos résultats, obtenus à partir d’un modèle de gravité en panel, montrent que leur commerce bilatéral est une fonction décroissante de leur niveau de démocratie. Cela semble suggérer que le processus de démocratisation enclenché après le sommet de la Baule en 1990 n’a pas encore permis d’accroître les échanges des pays d’Afrique centrale. Contrôler les estimations pour différents indicateurs de démocratie ainsi que pour la qualité des institutions ne modifie pas cette conclusion. |

| Summary, etc. | The aim of this paper is to evaluate empirically the incidence of the level of democracy of Central Africa’s countries on their international trade. Obtained starting from a gravity model in panel, our results show that their bilateral trade is a decreasing function of their level of democracy. What seems to suggest that the democratization process engaged after the Baule’s summit in 1990 did not make it possible yet to increase the exchanges of the countries of Central Africa. To control the estimates by various measures of democracy as by the quality of institutions does not modify this conclusion.Codes JEL: F12, F15, O55, P48, C23. |
