| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article propose une exploration systématique de la géographie du sex-ratio juvénile en Inde. Une présentation cartographique à une micro-échelle inédite offre le point de départ à une évaluation de cette structuration géographique complétée par une analyse géostatistique de l’autocorrélation spatiale. L’effet de la distance sur les variations des niveaux de discrimination de genre est ensuite mis en regard avec une mesure comparable des différentiations socio-économiques du sex-ratio juvénile. Cet examen comparatif permet de démontrer que la structuration géographique joue un rôle primordial dans l’hétérogénéité des comportements discriminatoires de l’Inde contemporaine. |

| Summary, etc. | Spatial patterning of gender discrimination in India. Impact of social and geographical distances.— This paper offers a systematic exploration of the geography of child sex ratio in India. Mapping sex ratio on a micro-scale provides a starting point to assess its geographic patterning, followed by a geostatistical analysis of spatial dependence. The impact of distance on variations in levels of discrimination towards girls is then confronted with a comparable measurement based on socio-economic distance. The comparative analysis of the effects of social or space distance shows that geographical patterning plays a major role in regional variations in discriminatory behavior observed in contemporary India. |
