| Summary, etc. | RésuméUn système d’appellations relativement ancien, des particularités politiques post-apartheid font de l’Afrique du Sud un pays viticole complexe. S’inspirant des traditions européennes, l’Afrique du Sud dispose d’un découpage territorial viticole élaboré mais sous-utilisé. Néanmoins, de véritables fronts de progression viticole contemporains s’identifient aux notions de terroir et d’origine géographique. Le concept de terroir est alors instrumentalisé localement pour la promotion d’un territoire et de ses qualités vitivinicoles, le plus souvent à des fins de « marketing » très éloignées de la notion géographique. |

| Summary, etc. | Between terroir and territory, the rebirth of the South African vineyardIts relatively old appellation system and its post-apartheid political features make South Africa a very complex “wine producing” case study. The European tradition, led to a fairly elaborate but little-used demarcation or appellation system across the South African winegrowing territory. Nevertheless, wine ‘‘frontiers’’ are active across the geography of South African vineyards with an extensive use of ‘‘ terroir’’ and geographical origin to promote new wines. The notion of the ‘‘ terroir’’ is mainly mobilised for marketing purposes rather than to promote the geographical origin of a wine. |
