| Summary, etc. | Les 2 054 cantons issus de la réforme de 2014, et qui ont élu leurs premiers représentants en 2015, ont dessiné une nouvelle carte administrative de la France. Comme auparavant, la plupart de ces cantons sont nommés d’après leur commune-centre ; mais la possibilité de leur donner d’autres noms a été saisie par 31 départements sur 98. Il en vient 223 noms nouveaux, fondés sur ceux de rivières, de reliefs, de pays, de références historiques, parfois avec une recherche de renommée. Ces nouvelles appellations sont très concentrées dans la France du Sud-Ouest, ce qui ouvre quelques hypothèses de recherche. |

| Summary, etc. | New Cantons in France : name games The 2 054 cantons that resulted from the 2014 reform, and who elected their first representatives in 2015, have profoundly modified France’s administrative map. As before, most of these cantons were named after their central commune ; however, the chance to give them other names was taken by 31 out of 98 departments. There are now 223 new names based on the names of rivers, contours, of local or historical references, and sometimes with a desire for fame. These new names are highly concentrated in the France’s south-west, which leads to several research hypotheses. |
