| Summary, etc. | Si John Brinckerhoff Jackson (1909-1996) contribua fondamentalement à la naissance et au développement des études paysagères américaines, peu de recherches ont été jusqu’à présent consacrées à ses manières de pratiquer le monde et d’y produire des savoirs. Sans aucun doute, ses écrits dans toute leur variété informent l’élaboration in situ de sa pensée paysagère. Néanmoins, seule la compréhension de ses pratiques photographiques peut permettre de découvrir comment il voyagea, observa et questionna sur le terrain, pendant plus de trois décennies. Composées de quelque cinq mille diapositives, ses archives photographiques conduisent par ailleurs à cerner comment il mit en œuvre une démarche de recherche qu’il définit comme amateur. |

| Summary, etc. | Though John Brinckerhoff Jackson (1909-1996) was pivotal in the birth and development of American landscape studies, few works have been published to date on his manner of approaching the world and producing knowledge. Without a doubt, his writings, in all their various forms, inform the on-site elaboration of his field experiences. However, it is only by understanding his photographic practices that we can discover how he traveled, observed, and inquired on the field, during three decades. Composed of five thousands slides, his photographic archives help better understand his approach to research, which he defined as amateur. |
